Carl Vinson, White Rabbits and Gram

For Key Center Writer's Group

Loosely based in fact; mildly embellished for entertainment value. Names have been withheld to protect the guilty.

When I dream, I don't go to fascinating planets full of aliens, robots, monsters or fantasy characters that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. No. I dream of things that are going on in my life that are very real, but twisted in a distorted and upside-down way.

After falling asleep one night two weeks ago, I had this dream that was not quite a nightmare, but it came damned close. It was kind of a feverish sleep because I was fighting this odd, 48-hour bug that was going around. One of the farm hands, at the ranch I live on, has a little boy that comes on certain days of the week instead of daycare, and he inevitably brings “biological containments” into the household. I don't have children of my own, so until the little guy was introduced to me, I seldom ever got sick. He's a cute little kid, and apparently infectious as well. I have heard him described as the “walking Petri dish.” He's engaging we adults in biological warfare by making us all sick with whatever he picks up at daycare.

Whenever I am asleep with a fever, my dreams are much more vivid than usual, and even stranger. This dream was a random culmination of the last 15 years that I've been living in Washington State. I suddenly was on the USS Carl Vinson again. It's the nuclear aircraft carrier that I was assigned to during my last tour of duty in the US Navy which ended 11 years ago. I found myself in the large Hangar Bay 3, and the ship was underway. I was surrounded by thousands of white rabbits. They were everywhere, and hopping around. I was the only one in the hangar with them. I felt that there was something important that I had to do with them, but was not sure exactly what it was. My only clues were the big cardboard cartons, three of them labeled “Small, Medium, and Large.” in large chicken scratch Sharpie (permanent marker) letters.

I began to sort the rabbits by size. They were soft but muscular rabbits, and didn't have much loose skin to grab onto by the scruffs of their necks. It make picking them up kind of a challenge. Some of them were easier to handle because they would be calm and cooperate, while other put up a big struggle. Usually, the very large rabbits were the ill-tempered. Feisty and angry would be the best way to describe them. They were scratching the hell out of my arms, and the cuts smartly stung.
As I picked up the larger rabbits and put them into the appropriate cartons, I realized that they were instantly replaced by either dozens of baby bunnies or really large rabbits—larger and larger they seemed to get. They kept showing up in the hangar bay, getting bigger and bigger while the smaller bunnies became more and more numerous. Some of the rabbits I picked up off the deck dropped lots of bunnies out of the butts. These bunnies would clump together in some instances and turn into even larger rabbits. This just made the task of getting all the rabbits off the hangar deck futile. I could hear the hangar deck officer over the 1MC calling the crew to come down for a FOD walk-down. He would follow it up by stating the importance of picking up the rabbits so they would get sucked into jet engines. There was a tone of urgency in his voice and the tension in the air was thick and salty.

The bigger rabbits were also pretty ferocious. Some of them started to snarl like lions, and charge at me. I found a conveniently placed cattle prod on the deck. It put out some serious voltage. With each discharge, the voltage seemed to increase, and this angered the really big rabbit of the bunch that now was about fifteen feet tall. When it roared, I could feel it's hot breath that smelled like rabbit feed. Before I knew it, the cattle prod was throwing bolts of lightning, and the ship was listing more than ten degrees to the starboard side.

I remembered thinking “Why are we doing a high powered turn with all these monster white rabbits in here?” The smaller bunnies were hard to catch because they were really fast and kept hopping around and bouncing like popcorn at the movie theater. “HA! Popcorn bunnies!” I thought out-loud. I pointed the prod and threw a bolt of powerful lightning to subdue the enormous rabbit growling in front of me.

It became very apparent that I was not going to get this big one under control, and the ship was listing and turning pretty hard. With each list, the rabbits and bunnies would roll, hop or run to one side or the other of the hanger bay in favor of the movement of the ship. It would also seem that the added weight of the rabbits was contributing the the pitching and listing of the ship. I ran toward an open port side watertight door. I could see the ladderwell on the other side that led below decks to the aft galley.

I ran into the compartment and dogged the door tight behind me, and just in the nick of time—because “Bunzilla” smashed into the bulkhead with a heavy thud, leaving a sinister imprint of its snarling profile in the steel plating.

It was very strange in that compartment, because some of the little bunnies managed to follow me inside, but they were just hopping around harmlessly. I went down the ladder and entered the galley and crew all seemed to be blissfully unaware of the rabbit infestation on the ship and lunch was going on as usual. I grabbed a tray and headed toward the hotdog bar and got a baked potato and some rabbit sausage. Looking at the menu on the bulkhead next to the bullseye by the exit into the dining area, I read it out loud “North Korean BBQ Night.”I noticed that there was a spit in the kitchen area behind the baked potatoes and Kim Jung Un was roasting an suspiciously familiar animal that resembled an annoying, face-eating little satanic designer dog I once knew. I looked back down at the potatoes in the bin and noticed that they all had roots and plants starting to grow out of them.

So I grabbed a schlitzengrubben and saurekraut instead and headed into the dining area where I found my Grammy and Pappy sitting at a table waiting for me. Oddly enough, this did not strike me as being strange, and I woke up a little, feeling kind of hot, but the blankets were my protective shield from the cool morning air and I was not ready to get up yet. It was still dark outside. I checked the clock and it was 5:54.

But when I fell back into my disturbing slumber, I found myself in Montgomery, Pennsylvania with my grandparents, having dinner in their favorite restaurant. The dinner I had picked out on the Vinson was waiting for me, but it had gone cold and was now growing potato blossoms and a couple of baby bunnies were sitting in the middle of the plate, nibbling on the kraut.

My grammy has Alzheimer's and it's pretty advanced. Despite medication that has slowed the progress of this disease significantly, her pilot house has nobody at the helm most of the time. But she has an amazing ability to “fake-it” and appear pretty normal by just agreeing with things that are said on occasion, and nodding. Every now and again, she'll laugh in an inappropriate place during conversation or repeat an obscure fact several times in the course of a half-hour or more.. On the really bad days, but fortunately rare, she'll lose it and scream at Pap by accusing him of sleeping with hookers, or insisting that she be taken to her house where she lived when they were first married. She now stays at Shady Pines in Warrensville where she is much happier and Pappy visits her everyday. He signs her out and takes her on “dates” or doctor's appointments frequently. She likes this, but sees him an attractive stranger and insists to him that he not tell her husband.

But this particular night she was more conversational than usual, and after a brief dining experience and conversation, of which, I can't remember all the details, the three of us piled into the truck. My pap has a 2004 Dodge crew cab, white in color, with all the bells and whistles. It is one of those really nice S.U.V. Kind of trucks that practically will drive itself. But you can imagine my dismay when I saw Grammy getting behind the wheel! I was already sitting in the front seat on the passenger side next to her, and Pap was in the back, just chuckling and teasing me. Meanwhile, without me noticing, Gram had already started driving and we were suddenly spinning into a sideways slide at the foot of the hill by their house in the country near Muncy! She had the accelerator floored and the back wheels were spinning and white smoke was everywhere, and she held the truck like this for some time and I asked Pap “WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING?”

“We're waiting for that semi-truck to pass by!” he laughed as he pointed at the 18-wheeler bearing down on us with it's lights blazing and horn honking. Meanwhile, Grammy just laughed. . . .

I woke up to a half conscious state, realizing that it wasn't dark anymore and that I had to go to the bathroom. I had this strange feeling like I was sitting on a warm waterbottle, then realized I had to throw those shorts away.

The End

I am in love with Debian again

I started using Red Hat Linux in 1999 after having a brief flirtation with Corel Linux in 1998. Looking for alternative and free software became a hobby. I could see that Microsoft was going to continue being really expensive and overworked/engineered software as XP dawned upon the market. XP was relatively stable, but 98 was the best and easy to work around. I thought that Millennium was a joke and never even bothered with Vista--hearing the reports from friends and the media about how screwy it was.

When Red Hat became Enterprise Edition, I saw the Fedora Core project as a great alternative to Windows, and installed it on an old Pentium III in 2003. That old machine ran just as quick as my Pentium 4 Dell laptop with XP SP2! What caused that old Pentium III to pass through the veil was its power supply finally gave out, and it was old enough to just frankenstein the hardrives and other hardware that was still compatible with the computer towers of the time. I still have data files from those old drives that have followed one incarnation of the computer to the next. So it is possible to have a computer that "evolves" over time.

I eventually steered away from Linux for a few years because of college, and I had little choice but to return to XP for a while so I could use some of the software that was part of the curriculum for my ear training and sight singing course. Otherwise I would have been able to remain with Linux during that time, but WINE wasn't as sophisticated or updated and didn't lend to hardware support like it is today.

My return to Linux was in 2010 when I installed a copy of Debian 4 on an "expendable" laptop that I purchased from a friend. It was an old Compaq and one of the first Pentium 4 models they made in 2001. It had seen better days, but once I replaced the XP that wouldn't upgrade to SP3 (didn't have the memory or speed to run a large paging file) I realized that Debian was a superior operating system. I had that computer set up with Debian for a long time, several months, with no incidents. I took the computer with me to Pennsylvania on a trip to visit family for Christmas 2010 and it performed smoothly. It ran so well, that despite the fact the laptop weighed a ton and was bulky compared to the newer ones, it was like having a new computer. . .

It was running great, until I "broke" it by doing something foolish trying up upgrade the kernel. So a friend gave me a live cd of "OpenSuse" and it had Debian as a backport so it was able to read Debian archives and package files. So for more than a year, the computer ran great. I used it for doing my books for my tattoo shop for a long time. But like many of the Linux distros, it eventually would no longer update and the apt-repositories changed, so it was impossible to do the updates without having the right ppa's.

That computer was then retired and import accounting and word-processing files were uploaded to the cloud on the INTERNET and I returned to using windows for a while again.

I had a nice HP DV6000 laptop that I bought used from a friend in Belfair, and one day it decided not to turn on anymore, right about the same time that my tower did the same (my frankensteined computer that morphed into XP SP3 for the business.) So it left me without a computer for the first time. Even my android Dell tablet died! So my phone was my only link to the Internet, and I was having a fight with the service provider and their scrupulous billing practices.

So I started to troll the ebay through my iPhone application and found my current laptop, an HP/Compaq tc4400 (tablet computer). It has the flip screen that spins around into a tablet mode, has a Wacom-based stylus for the screen, and a fingerprint scanner for logging into it. It is a commercially used computer and I've seen people using them that work for UPS and communications companies. The price was right and I offered them 125.00 for it and they accepted my offer. It was said in the ad that there would be no operating system on it when I received it.

To my suprise and (delight) the seller installed Linux Mint 10 (Julia) on it. I really liked Linus Mint and it was compatible with both Debian and Redhat based packages. For a while, I didn't have any issues with the upgrades, but it was becoming more and more obvious that apt was unable to connect to many of the ppa's in the sources.list and backporting was just a waist of time. Linux Mint uses women's names to define their incarnation/release that is current, and they were already up to Olivia (Linux 15). I read on a forum that there was a way to upgrade using apt-get, but it was risky.

But before getting into that, I'll describe the software suites I'm using.

Because my computer is equipped with a stylus, I purchased a non-free software program named "MyScriptStylus." It is a little notepad that you can cursive write on and it converts it into text, in any of the programs. I love to write my book this way. I have another program I also purchased called "Writer's Cafe." It has all kind so tools for writing, and it came with another program that converts your word processing files into ePub projects for Kindle and other electronic book readers. Not only that, I continue to use GIMP for my graphics and photography, Mozilla/Firefox for web browsing, and OpenOffice.org for my word processing--linked through Writer's Cafe for my writer's tools.

Writer's Cafe is awesome. It has character name generators, timed writing assignments, thesaurus, dictionary, notepad, sketch pad, journal, and it has a timeline creator/editor with notes for character development and linking them to various timelines and story plots. It helps to organize novels and develop them into sophisticated stories that are well planned.

I also have an unlocked-for-Linux animal breeder/pedigree database program called Kintraks. I use it for my rabbitry and have my pedigree information on hand. I can trace lineage, medical information, color of animals, plan future breedings, and link it to other databases from other pedigree programs by mapping the fields together manually and importing the records or linking the databases through the cloud. It can also keep photo records of each animal. Not bad for FREE software! If I had Windows, I would have had to purchase the license.

The computer has a good battery, and when using the built-in battery power management in Linux, it can last three hours or more.

With this in mind, the only thing I didn't have for the laptop was a docking station. So I looked on eBay and found one for 12.00 from a supplier in California. Meanwhile, I tried to do the apt-get upgrade of the Linux kernel, and it didn't work out. Fortunately, I have a Dropbox account and it uploads all my data files to the cloud, the same account that I have my android and iPhone devices connected too. So pictures I take on my phones are automatically uploaded and downloaded/managed on my computer. I have been using SD/MMC to store music and personal files on and so when the upgrade killed my computer, I was able to keep my information, including my Internet browser bookmarks.

Since I broke Linux Mint Julia, I downloaded the latest version of Linux Mint Olivia, and it would not completely install on my laptop! So I tried Fedora 10. It installed, but because of the licensing and opensource policy on Fedora Project, I could not get my MyScriptStylus non-free software to work. There is a program called "alien" that is suppose to allow you to cross-platform extract Debian files into RPM packages (Redhat Package Management). I liked the Fedora system, but hated how it would not compile the make file for Alien, so I was stuck looking for another alternative, yet again.

So I looked at Debian 7. I downloaded the dvd-iso and burned it to a disk to make a live DVD for install. I got Debian up and running with in an hour and a half and had a working system again. I installed all my favorite software suites, free and non-free, and now I am COMPLETELY satisfied with my computer again. Debian offers the best of ALL WORLDS LINUX, in my opinion. I had little trouble installing the broadcom firmware for the wireless, the bluetooth functions work flawlessly so I can use my Motorola Stereo bluetooth headset. My stylus works. I download a macro editing program and created programs with icons that allow me to rotate the screen and Wacom drivers into normal, inverted, and portrait modes when I put the computer into a tablet mode. I also can use both of my displays. I have a regular external Sony 17 inch monitor. When my computer is attached to the docking station, I have the screen of the laptop in tablet mode and it is oriented so that I have and extended desktop. I also have a nice Kensington track ball, wireless Microsoft keyboard, USB printer, USB camera, and extra USB ports. When I want to go mobile. I just put the computer in "suspend" and eject it from the docking station. When I want to dock. I put the computer into suspend and attach it to the dock and turn it back on--returning to a desktop mode.

I find that I enjoy using the computer this way. It makes me more mobile and flexible with my computer needs. Debian 7 is my Linux distro of choice. I even took the gnome3 session and found steam-punk designed window themes and installed them. Gnome3 still has some issues with being user friendly, but it works nicely once you get past the learning curve. Xfce is nice too. I like how simplified the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of both of them are.

I am also discovering the value of programs like Muse, MuseScore, LMMS for music programs. So I can now do all of the things I love to do on the computer in Linux. I will never return to Microsoft so long as there are Debian distros being supported. And judging by how nicely my upgrade/return to Debian 7 has been, I think that project is going to be around indefinitely.

Sailing Poem #1

I have saltwater in my veins.
I feel drawn to the ocean.
I hate living on land.
I sleep well at night in a berthing over rocking waves and surf.

The wind whistles in the shrouds.
The luff of the sail vibrates with power.
The weather decks are cool to the touch.
The wind pulls, pushes and packs a punch with random gusts.

The water is marbled and blue.
Waves crest with white.
Spray and foam washes the hull.
The smell of sea warmed by the sun fills my breath.

The tide is running at me hard.
The wind hitting the sails even harder.
“I am really moving now!” so I thought.
Then I realized that I'm “Roller skating on a treadmill!”

And when the wind dies and the water is calm
the sails limp and napping shade me from the afternoon glare.
The tidal stream pulls the keel in favor of its direction
and peace settles into my soul.

Until a power-boater cruises by at 40 knots and pisses me off!
The boat pitches and heaves violently in raging wake!
The sails are slapping and snapping with a limp thrashing
And the tiller struggles against the bungies holding it on course.

“Thoughtless and ignorant, suffer the God damned shitters!”
My throbbing and salty heart churns white hot foam.
Awkward and ashamed I digress.
There's a momma seal and her baby watching me with dubiously disturbed curiosity.

The powerboat is gone down to the other side of the inlet.
The water returns to normal and my mood soon matches.
The sails sag back to slumber in that summer heat and
Life on board returns to its previous state.

Time passes slowly on a sailboat.
There is no hurry to get home.
When I live on it I'm already there!
Too bad the shitters in the powerboat are in a hurry, wishing their life away.

So to those ignoramuses I say “Live and let live—Forgive forget!”
My life will be much longer than theirs.
My hands are not on a throttle.
I can enjoy the quiet and reflect.

Since life is richer when time is standing still.
I can glide on the water in the calm.
I can skip the waves in spirited joy.
My freedom will last forever.

And when I die I want to be burned.
Don't bury me in the dirt.
Don't put me in a bag or a box or stuff me like an angry bear.
Just throw my ashes in the blue water and feed me to the fish.

. . . . so I can reincarnate as a hammer head. . . . .

. . . . . . . and eat a power-boater. . . . . .

All Hail the Great White Sacred Rabbit!

For Key Center Writer's Group

Title: All Hail the Great White Sacred Rabbit!
Character: Garth Lor
Narrator: Walter Boyscout
Obstacle: A religious revival meeting

Garth Lor was a very religious man. I heard about how he liked to go to his religious revival meetings and act as an interpreter for people that spoke in tongues.

I never understood why people would believe that they were overcome with the "Spirit of the Lord" and talk in gibberish while others seemed to know what the hell they were talking about. Garth is one of those devout followers of this cultist group of people that meet in the house that's shaped like a pyramid at the end of Pharaoh Ln.

I suppose that you want to know who I am. I'm just an average weirdo that scratches his head while pondering what religion is all about. My name is Walter Boyscout and I'm a carpenter. No, I'm not like Jesus and I don't come from a virgin mother or feel the need to be a martyr and be crucified. I do, however, always feel troubled by the very mention of the word "church" and can feel this writhing sensation in my body when thinking about it. My Grammy says "It's because of the Devil! He's grabbed your soul and when you hear the Saviour's name, he writhes in repugnance and steers you towards sin, and women, and hookers, and sex, and drugs, and rock-n-roll. . . " and she gets on her pulpit and goes on and on and on. These sermons usually ends up about dirty pillows and diseases that make a man pee fire.

Garth, on the other hand, he seems to think that he is "next to godliness" and his diaper of life has no stains. I grew up with him and at one time we were even best friends. But something happened after we graduated from Broken Arrow High School and went to the University of New Mexico. He got involved with this group from a philosophy class and suddenly was worshiping rabbits while dressed as an Egyptian.

Garth was a smart man. He was a borderline genius, and when I learned of his conversion to Egytological Evangelist Lagamorph Saints Temple, I was scratching my head and pondering once again while the threads of my soul writhed in embarrassed agony.

"Walter, you have no idea how incredible our candle vigils are at temple," he told me excitedly after his first attendance of services. "Brother Cottonbottom was so inspiring at this service and Sister Beatrix Fuzzy Feet is such a gentle nun."

A struggled to hold back my laughter and bit my tongue, hard enough to hurt and draw a little blood. I had tears welling up in my eyes, and not from the pain, but from his sincerity.
"That's wonderful Garth, I think," I said in a robotic and strained voice.

"You don't believe me," he said in a saddened tone.

"I'm sure that whatever it is that you are doing in services must mean something to you, and what do I know of church, God, Jesus or rabbits and Egyptians anyway?" I stopped and thought about that sentence a moment. How strange this conversation is. "So, what can you tell me about the services or doctrine of your new found faith? I wasn't even aware that Egyptians had rabbits in hieroglyphs."

"Well, I can tell you that much of the sacred right is secret to outsiders, so you have to come to a service and only by invitation by Brother Cottonbottom." He looked at me with an alien burning stare and stiff grin. He had such a crazed look that it scared me enough to almost pee my pants a little.
"You know how absurd this is? How ridiculous you sound? I thought you were smarter than this Garth?" I brow beat him a little. I couldn't take much more of this stupidity. "Next think you know, they will be asking you to have your organs put in jars and they will embalm or mummify you."

"No, mummification is reserved for the hierarchy that has died of natural causes and in the presence of the large, white, sacred rabbit." He really tried to reassure me.

"Well, you won't catch me dead in a place like that, or wearing that ridiculous King Tut costume without underpants to go to those services!" I could hear people chuckling around us a little as the look of hurt shock spread across his grimacing face and he began to cry.

Whimsy

Below is the content of a creative writing piece for the Key Center Writer's Group. Enjoy:

Character 1: Maria Hartwig
Character 2: Kareem Brough
Setting: Buckingham Palace
Goal: To return from exile
Obstacle: A cat

The Royal Whimsey: Whispering Cat of Buckingham

I'm just a lowly butler with the unfortunately stereotypical name Jeeves. I've been in the employment of the English royals for many years. I have many stories to tell. If only I could write a tell-all autobiography without fear of royal intimidation! So I guess I will have to write this and just wait until I die to have it published. What are they going to do? UN-bury me? I'll be cremated and still have the last laugh from beyond the grave! HA! They will have to cuss me out from the banks of the river Thames!
There is one story that everyone in the whole of the United Kingdom wants to really hear. It's about two innocents that were caught in a whirlwind of scandal and embarrassment that is only funny in hindsight. At the time, it was a really serious and potentially could have caused major world conflict, perhaps even leading to war!
Maria Harwig and Kareem Buxley returned to Scotland after being exiled by the British tabloids when they were falsely accused of stealing the Royal Family's cat, Whimsey.
It was all an enormous misunderstanding. Maria was hired by the royals to watch over the aging and batshit-crazy Queen Helen, whose senility has taken over--most of the time she thinks she's a doll that she had as a child and that the caregivers are soldiers of the Buckingham guard.
She is often found wandering the grounds on "unauthorized field trips" with her walker, many of those times not wearing clothing that a normal person would find sane or be caught dead at a funeral parlor in. Other times, she is reliving moments in her eccentrically challenged life. Even in her best years as a young woman, she was considered to be a "space-cadet" by her family. She was definitely a black sheep of that family, so when the rest of them died in a freak miniature golf tournament accident and Helen inherited the thrown by default--the cousins of the royal family fled Buckingham palace and returned to their country estates as fast as their chauffeurs could drive them, laying rubber the length of the private drive leading away from the palace.
Kareem was a visiting college friend of Prince Herald. Kareem was the son of an affluent Scottish lord, and his mother a Nubian Princess with beautiful eyes of black and the whitest white parts of the eyes that you could even imagine existed. She followed old traditions of African royals and wore a facial shroud that only allowed her eyes to show. She would bat her long lashes to entice men. Her figure was known to inspire poets and her bronzed skin and delicate long fingers were spectacular. She was promised to Prince Buckly-Buxley (Prince B-B-One) and to seal the deal and prevent a war between the United Kingdom and the Nubian Empire, he agreed to marry her having only seen her photographs. His own twin brother, Lord Gerald Buckly-Buxley (Prince B-B-TWO) called it “Taking one for the Royal Team.” You can only imagine the shocking surprise Lord B-B-One must have felt, on his wedding day, when she pulled back her veil exposing the rest of her face that was adorned with a hare-lip, mole, and buck-some chompers!
Fortunately the rest of her made up for the unbecoming features in spades otherwise the blending of Lord B-B-One and Nubian Princess would never have happened. And fortunately for Kareem, he got the best features of both his parents. The hare-lip, mole and chompers apparently skip every other generation. Although the names of the people in th Buckly-Buxley family resemble a vulgar farce of Star Wars characters. “MAY THE FARCE BE WITH YOU” the headline said in a London newspaper column featuring the political blunder. The anonymous author wrote the parody that became viral on all the social networks in print and on the INTERNET. There were dozens of skits acted out on television all around the world and featured on YouTube.
“How is is that Whimsey became the cause of Maria and Kareem's exhile?” you ask. Whimsey wasn't any ordinary tuxedo cat with the medieval black and white face of a masked axeman/executioner. As a matter of fact, Whimsey is the only cat that is known in existence on the whole of the Planet Earth, that can speak the King James English—complete with the biblical “Thou shalts,” and “So-and-so beget So-and-so” linguistic prowess. But that's not the only thing that makes Whimsey so special, but it's the content of the conversations that Queen Helen claims she has with the cat. Only the Queen can hear Whimsey, but when the cat speaks, the Queen starts barking orders and everyone hops-to.
"My Whimsey is the greatest and wisest poopsie of all the land," says Queen Helen. "My Whimsey wants his saucer of milk placed on the south facing window of my chambers so he can watch the birds. And he commands that the palace staff are to wear Chaquita Banana Lady fruit hats today."
Of course, the Queen ordered that the cat be dressed with a red cape and have a special throne in the "throne room" of the Queen's private chambers. In the Queen's autumn years, she decided to have a throne placed at the foot of her bed and that became her new "throne room." One funny thing that the Buckingham staff would do is us their fingers to quote "throne room" when referring to the "throne room" while rolling their eyes and snickering.
But to the Queen, this was not a game and the "throne room" was very real. She would often entertain foreign dignitaries from outrageous countries contrived from the warped grandma mind of hers. It was quite the spectacle. And since her son, Prince Pubert Rompole the Third insisted that the Queen be made comfortable at all costs so that he would not be bothered with his mother's deteriorating condition, the staff was forced to play along. And since the first day, fifteen years ago, of her apparently senile condition Pubert was hoping that each day would be her last. It became painfully obvious that Queen Helen was as healthy as Jim Fixx (before his heart failure) and that she would outlive all humankind and commune with the cockroaches in the “End Times.”
Queen Helen had a pet name for Pubert that he truly despised. “Pubertee, where's my Pubertee,” she would cackle. Meanwhile staff members would just choke on their laughter, because being rude and having loud outbursts made them fearful of Purbert's sharp glances and even sharper threats toward their employment if they were caught laughing again. Unfortunately for six former maids, the joking jab “Prince Pubertee Rompole-Foreskin the Third” was the final straw that ended their employment. One butler had to rushed to the hospital when he fell over laughing and was wounded when he landed on a broken glass he dropped.
Despite his christening name, Pubert was exponentially blessed with a shrill, squeaky and nazzly voice, a trait that he inherited from his shallow end of the Royal gene-pool. It was matched by his diabolical and cynical mind. Often his antics would have the tabloids buzzing and the public laughing hysterically, and most British citizens were thankful that the Royals no longer dictated foreign policies. Especially since the Queen was taking orders from Whimsey. Once, one tabloid headline read: “PUBERT, TALKING CAT FORTUNATELY NOT IN COMMAND!”
“God save the Queen. . . . . . from her son and cat!” became the new British motto.
Maria and Kareem met on Maria's second day of employment at the palace. Maria was a 26-year-old nursing and live-in assistant that was referred by “Shady Pines Nursing Home for Celebrities” in Beverly Hills, California. So being an American in an English household was exciting for her, especially working for the Royal Family. She worked for Barbara Streisand, who's head has turned 236-years-old. She has a cybernetic body that keeps her head alive and needs constant monitoring. Despite all the technology and money in the world, the cybernetic body's arms have this habit of smacking Barbara in the face at random—especially when she starts to sing. It was Maria's job to ensure that the arms behaved themselves and to take care of the rest of Barbara's needs. She was higly recommended by “Shady Pines” and Ms. Streisand. “Someday, a mad scientist is going to perfect the technology and I will have full control of my arms,” she would tell Maria. They would both laugh out loud as the cybernetic hand would slap Ms. Streisand's cybernetic knee.
Kareem was pioneering the practice of canine phrenology. He had an office in Edinborough where people would bring in their dogs. He would feel the bumps on a dog's head and tell its master what was on the “furry mind” of his patient. He was met with mixed results, but many people were bored and had government credits to spend. Usually, the reality of what the dogs thought were a bit much for the masters to bare. He was thinking about branching off into cats and rabbits, since there were more of them than dogs in the whole of the U.K. It's important to diversify one's business, he would say.
When Kareem was not working and dressed-down, he reeked of his third-worldly heritage, and the Queen would often make off-handed racial slurs in acute political incorrectness that would take him a few steps backward in time. She called him “that nice mulatto servant boy.” Kareem hated that word: 'Mulatto.” It reminded him of that white ape-like Star Trek creature that Captain Kirk battled with in 1968 called a “Mugato.” Kareem was thankful that was more than two hundred years ago and that there were not as many Trekkie's left in the U.K.

So long MySpace Blog

So my blog that is ten years old is gone. Too bad. Same with the pictures, many of which I no longer have copies of. I think that when you publish anything on the net it is eventually going to be lost in oblivion. So the best course of action is to save everything on hard copy. Perhaps, one day, there will be a permanent site that will house the sum of human blogging for all eternity. . . . . pshaw. . . .
